Nominee Programme (UNP) - Synopsis and Price Structure for Academic Year 2011/2012
"The United World College movement makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. We educate individuals to take responsibility for shaping a better world." - UWCSEA Mission
Introduction to UWCSEA
The United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) is a member of the United World College movement which comprises 13 educational institutions that bring together students from around the world. The school was founded in 1971 as a joint venture between the local business community and the Singapore government to serve the education needs of the expatriate community. The College is registered in Singapore as a Charitable Trust, and is a not-for-profit organisation.
UWCSEA operates over two campuses (Dover and East) and offers a rigorous, holistic education for 3,800 students from K1 to Grade 12. The College has an excellent IB Diploma pass rate of 97%, compared to the worldwide pass rate of 80% and facilitates 98% of our graduates attending universities worldwide. We actively combine challenging experiences with academic rigour and creative opportunities in the personal education of every student. Students, parents and teachers embrace a school ethos that emphasises compassion for others.
All staff and students from K1 to Grade 12 are involved in service programmes in both Singapore and the region. Working with over 60 local service providers, our students plan and lead challenging activities with children and adults with a diverse range of physical, social and intellectual needs, while the student-led “Global Concerns” programme supports 40 not-for-profit organisations. These projects address significant needs in countries like Indonesia, India, Kenya, Vietnam, Cambodia and Nepal. A number of corporations and individuals have helped to support the students’ service programmes.
A unique aspect of the College is the presence of scholars who add to the rich diversity amongst the student population. In 2009 we supported the education of 45 scholars - a programme planed to grow to over 200 as the East Campus expands. Scholars are chosen from across the globe via a rigorous selection process that seeks to identify students with the desire to make a positive impact on the world. Many of the scholars come from underprivileged backgrounds.

Origin of the UWCSEA Nominee Programme
The combination of a globally-recognised academic reputation, the commitment to community service, experiential learning, the diversity of the student body and the compassionate culture of the school has resulted in waiting lists as long as five years for several grade levels. As a result of their inability to relocate key personnel to Singapore without a guaranteed place in UWCSEA, the business community supported the College’s initiative to establish a programme to provide guaranteed places in return for a cash subscription.
At the same time, UWCSEA has initiated a number of programmes to expand and improve the school - a significant increase in scholarships, a major building programme (including the new East Campus), an investment in innovative teacher training and education programmes and the build-up of an endowment. We are committed to be recognised world-wide as a leader in international education.
UWCSEA Nominee Programme Overview
The primary objective of the UNP programme is for UWCSEA to develop a long-term, collaborative relationship with 30-40 corporations that want to support the College. We expect these companies will understand and support the College’s mission and ethos and see the benefit of contributing in a significant way to the College’s continued development and growth. The UNP is not intended to be a “one-off” for special situations.
The price structure and key elements of the UNP programme are:
- each UNP subscription is offered either in a bundle of two places, with one place for the East Campus and one place for the Dover Campus OR as a single place at either campus. Each bundle requires a S$175,000 subscription for each place, a total of S$350,000 per bundle (plus GST) and S$225,000 per single place (plus GST)
- only corporations are permitted to reserve UNP places for their employees
- students registering through the UNP route will be subject to the same entry criteria for admission - there are no “special preferences” for UNP subscribers
- UNP places cannot be sold, traded or bartered
- only a limited number of places are available each year - we will apprise current subscribers as we approach the limit for a given year
- applicants using UNP places must meet the 15 April deadline each year for a guaranteed place; otherwise the candidate will be placed at the top of the waitlist for the requested grade
- UNP applications will continue to accept new subscriptions from corporations until 19 August, for ‘top of the applications’ placement only and will not be for ‘guaranteed’ admission after the cut-off date
- to provide flexibility, corporations will be permitted to ‘roll over’ one place in the first year of subscription to 2012/2013 academic year. Corporations have been provided with an additional year’s validity for East Campus places only, due to the phased opening of the East Campus site in Tampines, for subscriptions received in 2009/2010 and 2010/1011 academic years
