Health and well-being

UWCSEA believes that a happy and healthy child is one who can get the most out of their school experience. The College takes care of the physical side of a child's development with nutritious and healthy food choices in the canteens. At UWCSEA, all students are encouraged to follow good hygiene and nutritional practices.

Canteens
Students can bring food from home and are able to purchase their own food from two different canteens. A variety of cuisines are available including western, Chinese, Malay, Indian and vegetarian. A daily food allowance of $5.00-$7.00 should be sufficient.

College Clinic
The College Clinic is equipped to handle minor injuries that occur in school and most teachers, teacher assistants and secretaries have received first aid training. In the case of serious accidents, every effort is made to contact parents immediately. In an emergency the child is taken to the College clinic and then, if necessary, to the nearest hospital.

College Counsellors
The College Counsellors are Mr. Ian Moody, Mrs. Julie Gibbs, and Ms. Vicki Munt. They are available to all students who wish to consult them about issues of personal concerns. Students see the counsellor for a variety of reasons including decision-making processes, relationships, stress, and more serious emotional concerns such as depression, family issues, and eating disorders. Consultations with the counsellor are completely confidential, except in cases of personal risk or harm.

The Counsellors' offices are located in the annexe to the Reception. They are available on most days from 7:30am until 4:00pm. Later appointments are scheduled upon request. If the counsellors are not in their office, students should leave a message providing their name and tutor group, and the counsellors will respond as soon and as discreetly possible. If a student's need is urgent, they should check the schedule on the office door and go to the room where the counsellor is teaching.

Drug testing
In conformity with Singapore's laws, any experimentation with drugs of any kind is illegal and could lead to expulsion from the College.

Any student from Grade 7 upwards is liable to be selected at random to give a hair or urine sample at any time of the school day. Click here to read complete drug testing programme.
